It all started with a vintage Chanel button-down shirt and my first fashion week. The funny thing about the world of fashion is the more time you spend around beautiful, extravagant garments, the more you crave a back to basics approach in the ‘chiffon trenches.’
Toile Vierge means blank canvas in French. Stripping away the excess, from churned out textiles to the extreme number of air miles dictated by ‘Made in ___’ on each of our clothing labels. I instead asked, what could I uncover by hopping on my bike and seeing what was hiding right below our noses - or wheels?
The right people, the right places and a lot of research, led me to find endless supplies of designer-level fabric just here in the UK and a network of local artisans that would make the production process all worthwhile. To produce my collections, I am proud to be partnering with Making for Change, a London College of Fashion powered charity with units at Poplar Works and HMP Downview Prison. This organisation empowers women with skills and employment in fashion manufacturing. Read more about them on my Production Page here.
When it comes to each collection, sartorial garments represent a foundational touching stone. In line with maintaining a perspective of my beloved London as a ‘blank canvas,’ Toile Vierge will opt to reimagine a new ‘hero’ material in excess at the start of each season.
